Travelers Checks replaced by Travel Cards
Paper
travelers checks sales are declining.
Prepaid Travel cards
are replacing the paper travelers checks. Plastic cards are
dominating
how consumers pay for things, and cash and checks have been steadily
decreasing. The credit union is following suit. As of January 1st,
we will no longer have paper travelers checks and will be offering
Visa Travel Money (VTM) cards in its place.
The process is simple and the convenience is great.
The credit
union will issue you a prepaid travel card in US dollars.
Travel cards are both PIN and signature
protected. (This is a safe and convenient way to carry money when you are
traveling.) You will have 24 hour access to get cash
through an ATM. You can withdrawal
local funds and use one card for any currency. Best of all, these cards are
accepted at millions of merchants worldwide.
These cards are different.
You can reload these cards from the convenience
of your home. They are prepaid upfront with an amount of $250 to $9,999.
You have zero liability for unauthorized transactions and items purchased
with
your travel card. You also have consumer purchase protection and Emergency
Travel Assistance with this card. And one of the best features is the Identity
Protection; your name and personal info is not on the card, so it can be
used safely on the internet and for catalog purchases.
If you are a member who has service relationships with us, we will waive
the $7.95 fee to initially load the card.
Additional loads and withdrawals
may
incur fees. Of course most members who use travelers checks or travel cards
want to know what to do if they are lost or stolen. If this is the case,
a new card will be sent to you or you can get an additional card as a back
up
for only $2.00. Then if your card is lost or stolen, you can transfer the
funds to the other card without any interruption. You can even re-load a
prepaid
card up to three times.
Next time you are traveling, consider using a pre-paid VISA Travel Money
card from your credit union. A safer, more convenient way to travel.
